Without the appropriate content, the Apple TV 4K is as useful as headphones with a jack plug on an iPhone 7. Canal+ is present from the launch of the new box with a 4K version of myCanal.
Update at 3:45 p.m.: After a few hours in beta, the myCanal update bringing 4K is now available in the tvOS App Store.
The first ultra-high definition content on myCanal is the complete season 3 of the Le Bureau des Légendes and Kaboul Kitchen series. In the coming days, other programs will be available in 4K, including the series Versailles, The Young Pope, Polar Day, as well as documentaries and some films.
4K content is only available on Apple TV 4K to begin with (device must be hooked up to a 4K TV). When everything is in place, this 4K content will be available on iPad Air 2, iPad Pro, iPhone 6/7/8 Plus, iPhone X and Safari on Mac.
As for live television, 4K will be activated soon with the dedicated Canal+ UHD channel. The goal is to have everything ready for the classico OM-PSG to be held on October 22.
The myCanal team is also preparing other advances for later. There's live 4K at 50fps (as is already the case with 1080p) which is better suited for sports, HDR support for more vibrant colors and the move to HEVC codec for make 4K more accessible.
