Ivory Aquino will play Alysia Yeoh for Hbo Max, in the film Batgirl
Ivory Aquino was chosen to play Alysia Yeoh, the roommate and best friend of the superheroine also known as Barbara Gordon, in the next HBO Max film, Batgirl, as Variety reports.
The character of Alysia Yeoh appeared for the first time in a DC Batgirl issue written by Gail Simone and the artist Ardian Syaf in 2011. She will play alongside the Barbara Gordon of Leslie Grace.Aquino and Yeoh are both transgender.This is the first time that a live action cinematographic adaptation of a DC Comics film will stage an openly trans character.
In 2017, the Philippine actress played the activist Transgender Cecilia Chung in the mini-series of ABC, When We Rise.
If Aquino is the first transgender actress in a DC feature film, the television series DC Supergirl, broadcast on the CW, also staged a transgender character.Transgender actress Nicole Maines played the role of Nia Nal superheroine in the fourth season of this series, thus marking the first appearance of a transgender super-heroine role on television.
