Neuralink, the company co-founded by billionaire Elon Musk, will place micro -uits in the brain of patients with serious lesions of the spinal cord.
Bionic super-humans are soon?In any case, this is a good start. After the various bionic prostheses that allow amputees to find lost sensations, here is the start-up of Elon Musk, Neuralink, hopes to start implanting fleas in the brain in 2022. The first patients will be people suffering from seriouslesions of the spinal cord.
A medical use
According to Business Insider, the chip implanted in the brain would record and stimulate brain activity. This stimulation could help resolve certain pathologies whose serious spinal cord lesions, but also certain neurological disorders.
In a live interview with the Wall Street Journal, Musk was questioned about these future projects. He said: "Neuralink works well in monkeys and we do a lot of tests (...) We hope to reproduce this in our first humans, who will be people with serious spinal cord lesions such as tetrap and quadriplies".
Quadriplegia or quadriplegia are total or partial paralysis of the arms and legs.Neuralink said the funds she raised last July will be directed to the development of their chip. The goal ?Allow quadripliques to control digital devices thanks to their brain. The Musk company had already managed to make a monkey play on video games using a network of electrodes.
How it works ?
Researchers will set up electrodes in the part of the brain responsible for movements. This connection will create a network which will subsequently transmit neural signals to devices. The user will therefore be able to control them without going through a touch contact. The threads of the electrodes are ten times thicker than a human hair.A careful operation that will not be done by human hands: only robots created specially for the occasion (under development) will be able to manipulate and place these electrodes.
A more extensive ambition
A project that Musk wants to develop on a larger scale. He expressed on Twitter the importance of these first locations: "Replacing defective or missing neurons with circuits is the right way to see things. Many problems can be resolved by simply connecting signals between existing neurons.Progress will accelerate when we have devices in humans. ”
Except that this technological work requires meticulousness and time.Data not always compatible with the ambition of the billionaire. In 2019, Musk said Neurralink hoped to start tests on humans by the end of 2020.

The Neuralink system could also be used to treat brain diseases, such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson disease. In the future, it is possible to consider that humans are equipped with new systems, capable of improving cognitive capacities. Is the future of humanity maybe super-ends?
