Is your laptop's webcam mediocre or do you use a desktop computer that does not?You can easily connect your smartphone and use it as a webcam for video calls or vlogs.Nextpit explains to you how to do it wireless or with a standard USB cable.

Smartphones are now equipped with very good cameras, and integrated microphones have become just as good.It is therefore logical to use your smartphone as a webcam on your laptop or fixed. If that's exactly what you want to do, then you are in the right place.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to use your smartphone as a webcam on your PC, whether in wireless or with a cable. In each case, downloading a free application will be necessary. As this tutorial concerns both Android and iOS smartphones, I divided it as follows::

::

  1. Utiliser un smartphone Android comme webcam
    1. With a cable
    2. Sans fil via le Wi-Fi ou le Bluetooth
  2. Utiliser un iPhone comme webcam

Of course, this technique is particularly practical if you install your smartphone as a permanent webcam.Do you have an old smartphone lying around? To find out more about the overcling of old smartphones, see the article in connection.

How to transform an Android smartphone into a webcam

In my opinion, the best webcam application for Android is "Droidcam - Webcam for PC".The application is available for free on the Google Play Store. The best way to download it is just click on the following link::

After installation, the application will open an installation assistant. If you don't know what to do, we will review the steps in the following paragraphs.Oh and by the way, you will have to allow the application to access the camera and the microphone.Let's go!

With a cable

Once you have installed the application, you can put your smartphone aside for the moment. So that Droidcam can communicate with your PC, it needs a customer. The latter is available for free for Linux and Windows operating systems on the developer home page.

After installing the customer, take your smartphone back.To find your smartphone as a webcam, you must activate USB debugging in developer options on Android. In case you do not know how to activate developer options on Android, follow the instructions in the article.

After that, your smartphone should appear in the list of devices in Droidcam, if it is connected to your PC via USB.Make sure your smartphone also allows data sharing. If it is only loading, you will have to activate the option in the notification bar.

Droidcam should now find your smartphone and ideally, you can see your home screen via a video stream in the software. If this is not the case, make sure that Droidcam is open both to your smartphone and on your PC.Besides, this will always have to be the case to use Skype, Google Meet and others.

In the parameters of your videoconferencing application, under "camera", select Droidcam as input. All you have to do is enjoy your calls.

Wireless

As we have already mentioned, wireless connection is possible. The advantage of this solution is that you will not have to clutter with a cable, which will allow you to move with more flexibility. However, if you use Droidcam in wireless, you will lose autonomy. However, the installation is also very easy.

In the right application, simply search for the WiFi IP address of your smartphone and enter it in the corresponding field of the PC client.Go to your videoconferencing application and select Droidcam as webcam.Again, this will only work if the application is open on the smartphone and the PC.

Small:: Droidcam also provides a video flow via the IP address, which you can view via your browser. You can therefore use your old smartphone as a surveillance camera or look from your desktop how fries cook in your oven.Practice!

How to transform an iPhone into a webcam

On an iPhone, the procedure is similar to that on Android. We recommend that you use the "EPOCCAM HD Webcam" application, which offers 640 x 480 pixel resolution at 30 FPS in the free version. This should be enough for video calls.Install the application via the following link::

As with Droidcam, you will have to download a PC client and, as if by chance, there is also a version for MacOS.Just follow the link below and download Epoccam for your computer::

The connection is a little easier than on Android, because you will not need to activate USB debugging.Instead, the two Epoccam applications automatically synchronize and establish a video flow after a while.Go to your videoconference application and select Epoccam as webcam.
