It is sometimes necessary to reset your tablet on Android or iOS. This tutorial explains why and how to do it. Updated on 04/14/2021
As the owner of a touchscreen tablet, it's a safe bet that at least once you have to reset it. Various causes may justify a reset: deletion of your personal data before a sale or deep cleaning of the storage memory, for example.
It may also be advisable to do a reset if the machine has some bugs or if your tablet is slow. In the latter case, it is rarely the definitive solution, but it can nevertheless produce good results. If your tablet is slow, a reset is recommended in order to purge the storage. Indeed, by dint of installing and uninstalling applications, residual files will remain in memory and take up unnecessary space.
Resetting every six months will keep your Android machine clean and tidy like when you first unboxed it.
Android reset procedure
To reset your Android tablet you must:
- Backup your data if you don't want to lose anything using this method
- Go to the Settings menu > Backup and reset
- Tap Factory reset
- Start hard reset by tapping Reset tablet
Step by step< /h3>
Now you know why you need to reset your slate, but how? Rest assured, the method is very simple and remains almost identical on all models on the market since Android 4.4 KitKat. Note that a reset only erases the internal memory of the tablet. If you use a micro-SD card, it will not be erased and will keep all its files intact.
For this example, I used a CDisplay from 2016 running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The procedure remains 99% similar on newer/older models.
To do this, go to the settings and look for the tab called Backup and reset. Various options are offered depending on the manufacturer, but in most cases you can choose an account to back up your data and restore the original configuration. So just tap on Factory Reset. The term can sometimes change slightly.
A page will appear to tell you that all your data will be erased from the internal storage memory: music, photos, applications, etc. So remember to save the items that are important to you before confirming!
When you're ready, just start the procedure by pressing Reset tablet. Then let the machine restart and do not touch anything.
When the erasure is complete, you can either resell your tablet or reconfigure it from scratch. In any case, it will be like new!
iOS reset procedure
The following procedure is carried out with an iPad Air 4 under iOS 14. It remains valid for the following versions.
To reset your iPad you must:
- Backup your data if you don't want to lose anything using this method
- Go to Settings > General > Reset
- Press Erase content and settings
- Enter your password to confirm the reset
Step by step
Resetting an iPad is very similar to resetting Android tablets. To do this, you must therefore go to the Settings. Several options are offered, which makes it possible to erase only certain precise points of the tablet without eliminating the rest.
In the Settings menu, find the General tab and tap Reset.
After pressing Reset, you will have several choices. In our case, we want a total reset, so we have to press Erase content and settings. All the data contained on the tablet will thus be eliminated. After tapping, iOS will offer to back up your important data to iCloud. We recommend that you do!
If you are sure of yourself and that you have saved all your data, indicate this and validate.
Once you confirm, the iPad will reset. Let him do it and don't interrupt the process. It will then be like new!
