Apple has expanded its Made for iPhone (MFI) program which allows manufacturers to create certified accessories to operate with Apple products, including the iPhone in particular. It is a certification provided by Apple directly, which ensures a certain quality for users.

Manufacturers are now allowed to create Lightning to Ethernet cables and Lightning Audio to USB-C to USB-C adapters. Some, like Anker and Belkin, have already created it in recent weeks. The interest of MFI revision is that many manufacturers will be able to join them, provided that they are approved by Apple.

Another novelty added by Apple is the Power Over Ethernet, translated by the Ethernet cable power supply. An iPhone or iPad can therefore be recharged through an Ethernet cable when a dedicated adapter will be used.

Always about Ethernet accessories, the Gigabit Realtek RLT8111EPU controller is presented by Apple as the chosen chip for manufacturers. This will allow (in theory) to wait 1 Gb/s on its iPhone or iPad.We specify well "in theory" because several factors are to be taken into account to reach this flow.
