The OnePlus 9 Pro was announced last month alongside the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus Watch. And after spending several weeks in his company, the time has come to give you all my impressions.

OnePlus embarked on a real diversification strategy last year, presenting no less than 6 smartphones.

The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro opened the ball at the start of the year, followed by the northern OnePlus during the summer and by the OnePlus 8T at the start of the school year. With, at the end of the year, two other devices positioned on the mid -range, the OnePlus N10 and the OnePlus N100.

We are not going to lie, this change of strategy did not only have happy and he even earned the brand's critical.

Which is ultimately quite logical. The shorter your renewal cycle, and the less the improvements are light. It is therefore with a certain apprehension that I slipped my SIM card into the OnePlus 9 Pro.

But as you will be able to realize it during this video, my apprehensions were quickly lifted.

Design & Ergonomie

You know, if I had really liked the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, the OnePlus 8T had left my hunger.Especially in the field of design.

I found the phone a little less successful than its predecessors.

Well know that I did not have this impression with the OnePlus 9 Pro.

It is enough to play with the phone for a few minutes to see the upmarket operated by OnePlus.

Very pleasant in hand, the phone is well balanced and it has the merit of being ultimately fairly light given its size, with a weight wedged at 197 grams.Inevitably, compared to an iPhone 12 Pro Max, it is impossible not to feel the change.

From the front, the OnePlus 9 Pro impresses. The screen is huge and there is just a thin border at the top and bottom.Just like in the era of the OnePlus 8 Pro, the brand has indeed opted for a curved slab which comes to cover part of the teleagues on the phone.

Precision which is important, the curve of the slab is a little less marked than in the time of the OnePlus 8 Pro.It is a totally assumed choice on the part of the brand that wanted to limit the risk of poor manipulation.

The punch is where all the punches should be: in the upper left corner. An ideal position since it will disappear when we keep the phone horizontally to watch movies or play.

The back is dizzying.OnePlus offers three different colors: the Stellar Black, a matt black, green bread, a matt green, and my model, the morning mist.

This model has the particularity of offering a brilliant back.At least in part.It is not easy to show on video, but OnePlus applied a vaporous effect to the upper part of the plate. She gives the impression of being occupied by mist, which has earned her her name.

I admit that OnePlus had me well on this one.You know, I don't like phones with a shiny back.I find them too dirty.

And this is of course the case here, except that the look of this plate ended up making me forget these nasty fingerprints.

The photo module was placed in the upper left corner of the plate.OnePlus has the room of the same color as the top of the plate to help us forget it.And it works pretty well.

This module is very generous in terms of sensors. We count no less than four, to which are added a laser autofocus and a flash made up of four LEDs.

We will talk about it later, but this module turned out to be a good surprise.

Little things to say about connection. As mentioned in my unboxing of the media kit, the OnePlus 9 Pro is finally satisfied with the strict minimum ... and therefore to a USB type-C connector.

As for the cards hatch, it can only accommodate two nano sims.

Another important point, the OnePlus 9 Pro has two speakers. The first is placed between the top of the slab and the upper border, the second on the lower edge.

Ergonomics are still as pleasant and all the people who have had a oneplus in their hands will feel at home.Only downside, the fingerprint reader is placed too low and I would have preferred that it be integrated two or three centimeters higher.

Ecran, Puissance & Autonomie

The time has now come to approach a crucial part of this test, namely the whole technical component.

And we're going to start with the screen.

The slab reaches 6.7 inches, with a definition in QHD+, for a resolution reaching the 3216 x 1440.Yes, it's precise. We also have an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz, a rate that will vary depending on the use, which will allow the OnePlus 9 Pro not to shoot too much on the battery.

Unsurprisingly, OnePlus opted for an Amoled type slab. And even for a slab equipped with a LTPO backplane.

I will not go too much into technical details, but know that the LTPO combines LTPS transistors and Igzo transistors, which allows backplanes that use it to consume between 5 and 15 % less energy.

Another important point, the OnePlus 9 Pro screen supports the entire P3 color space and it is in bonus compatible with 10-bit, which allows it to display more shades of colors.

And in fact, it works very well. The slab is of excellent quality and it allows you to take full advantage of your films and its series, but also its games.

However, and it seems important to insist on this, this technology debauchery is not only useful for multimedia. It is also very useful in a creation context, such as photo editing for example.

So a beautiful screen, a nice definition, it's nice, but it also requires computing power behind.OnePlus just did not do things by half.

Test du OnePlus 9 Pro, cette fois c’est la bonne ?

The OnePlus 9 Pro is indeed animated by a Snapdragon 888, by the most powerful chip that can currently be found on Android. The RAM is not to be outdone and it reaches 8 or 12 GB in LPDDR5.As for the storage space, we are on 128 or 256 GB, in UFS 3.1.And not expandable of course.

So let's be clear, once again, the OnePlus 9 Pro allows you to take the full measure of the power of the Snapdragon 888.An implacable chip, extremely velocity and that it is properly impossible to default.

This observation applies to today, at the time of this test, but also for the next two or three years. With such power, the Snapdragon 888 will indeed be able to resist the passage of time.

Which also means that you can keep your Pro OnePlus 9 Pro for a few years without any problem.

Especially that behind, there are also some well thought out functions, such as the hyper touch which reduces the latency between the CPU and the screen in order to make games even more fluid.

An intelligent function, but which at the moment only supports a limited number of games, games among which it is still possible to quote Call of Duty Mobile. It will indeed be developers and publishers to implement it in their titles.

And then there is autonomy.OnePlus has opted for a battery which is average and which reaches 4,500 mAh.Concretely, the OnePlus 9 Pro will be able to hold one day and a half without worry.

But autonomy is ultimately only part of the problem.Having a phone that is for a long time, it's good, but having a phone that holds for a long.

On the wired load side, the OnePlus 9 Pro inherits with OPPO wireless load technology, a technology that allows it to reach a power of 65 W and go from 1 to 100 % in just half an hour.

But that's not all.As a bonus, we are also entitled to wireless load ... with a power of 50 W.Or a full load in just 43 minutes.

So I don't know about you, but for me a wireless charge that allows you to reach 100 % in less than 45 minutes, it's limit of science fiction.Except that it is very real and that it clearly changes life.

On the other hand, important point, to take advantage of it, you will have to buy the oneplus station.

A very refined station, mixing white with gray, and which will have the merit of boarding a fan to avoid heating issues.Fan that we will hear still a little when it will activate.

Better yet, OnePlus even had the good idea to place an LED on the basis of its station in order to allow us to know when the charge is finished.

And there, I will be very clear, for me the OnePlus 9 Pro is simply unassailable on the technical part.

We have a magnificent screen, an ultra bicycle chip, comfortable autonomy and a quick load in wired or wireless.Honestly, I don't see what you can ask for more on this ground.

Regarding 5G, I have not tested it in this framework of use, but know all the same that the OnePlus 9 Pro take care of the SA and the NSA, as well as most of the usual frequencies.

This is worth in particular for the N78 and therefore the frequency of 3.5 GHz.On the other hand, the N258, the frequency of the 26 GHz is limited to American models.

This distinction can surprise, but it is exactly the same with the iPhone 12.The Mmwave antenna is also reserved for models sold in the United States.

Now, in France, it does not change much since our 5G offers will mostly exploit the 3.5 GHz band.

Photo & Vidéo

We are not going to lie, OnePlus and the photo, it has always been a little complicated, and that is what prompted the brand to review its copy ... and to get closer to a specialist of the genre: Hasselblad.

If you do not know it, Hasselblad is a Swedish company created in 1841 and specialized in the design of medium -format photo box.And therefore boxes equipped with very large sensors. The brand has notably made it known for equipping NASA astronauts in 1969.

The photos taken on the lunar floor were with a Hasselblad case.

OnePlus and Hasselblad announced their partnership at the start of the year and is supposed to last three years.Important precision, for the OnePlus 9, this partnership only focused on the software and non -material part.

OnePlus has indeed benefited from the support of Hasselblad engineers for the development of its algorithms, but also from the returns of its ambassadors.

Now that the decor is placed, we can go to the heart of the matter.

At the back, we will therefore find a module made up of 4 sensors.

The first is an IMX789 supplied by Sony.It reaches a definition of 48 Mpx with a wide angle opening at f/1.8 equivalent to a 23 mm.Optics consists of 7 pieces and it is stabilized. As a bonus, there is also an eis.Note that this sensor can shoot in 12-bit and it is the only one.

The second sensor reaches 50 million pixels. It is an IMX766 and it is associated with an ultra wide angle equivalent to a 14 mm and opening to f/2.2.Important precision, the optics incorporates a freeform lens as on the Find X3 Pro.Lens that will reduce the distortion phenomenon.

The fourth sensor does not exceed 8 MPs and this time it is coupled with a telephoto lens opening to f/2.4 and offering an optical zoom in 3.3x as well as a digital zoom in 30x.

Finally, finally, we will have a 2 MP monochrome sensor which will be used to improve the sharpness of black and white images.

As for the front camera, it reaches 16 MP and it relies on an IMX471 sensor. It also benefited from optimizations to offer better results in hand.

On paper, we are therefore entitled to great flexibility, but what in fact?

  • By day, the OnePlus 9 Pro is capable of obtaining very good results, with a well -stung image and colors that avoid supersaturation. He also manages to restore an interesting depth of field when we approach our subjects a little.

The dynamics are a bit perfectible on the other hand.On very illuminated scenes, the OnePlus 9 Pro sometimes tends to burn whites.Shadows can also be a little too blocked. However, it will be possible to arrange the situation by tilting into pro mode and shooting in DNG.On the other hand, at times, one will have the impression of having a veil on the lit scenes too head -on.

This being the sharpness of the textures forces respect and we really feel that OnePlus sought to review his score.

  • At night, the OnePlus 9 Pro disappoints a little.Let's even be very clear, it offers a rendering far from that of high -end smartphones.

The images are indeed rough, with haughty textures and not very clear contours. The white balance is also a problem and the phone will thus generate very yellow photos, completely missing the atmosphere of the night. The only positive point relates to the focus, which remains relatively fast and even on moving subjects.

It will of course be possible to correct the shot a little by tilting in the pro mode and taking control directly on key parameters such as the sensitivity or speed of the shutter, but this will result in a loss in terms of exposureAnd the images will therefore be much darker.

  • The OnePlus 9 Pro allows you to shoot with a maximum magnification of 30x.Be careful, however, because the optical zoom will not exceed 3.3x.In fact, we can however shoot at 5x without too many losses, see at 10x when the light is there.

Going to 20 or 30x, however, has no interest. We will lose too much dive and these zoom levels therefore seem above all there for marketing reasons.

Note that I do not throw the stone in OnePlus. It’s the same for all manufacturers.Even the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which remains phenomenal in 20 or 30x, fails to obtain good results above.

The ultra wide angle is not bad.The distortion is ultimately little marked thanks to the Free Form lens.We also maintain a correct homogeneity between colors, with a present dive regardless of the chosen focal length.

  • I found the Portrait of OnePlus 9 Pro mode fairly effective, even on a dog.He indeed manages to well isolate the subject of his environment and he can obtain quality images with a beautiful dive and natural colorimetry.

Again, OnePlus did not fall into the saturation trap and it is a good thing. We also feel more generally than the manufacturers have learned from their mistakes.Even Samsung is much more careful now.

  • If there is an exercise in which the OnePlus 9 Pro impressed me, it is that of the selfies.Again, he manages to obtain very good quality images with an impressive dive and which forces respect.

Same thing for the clutch which remains very natural and which is not done at the serpe.

The OnePlus 9 Pro is better in photo than its predecessors when they released, it is undeniable. And he obtains much better results than a OnePlus 8T, for example.

On the other hand, in my opinion, it is not yet at the level of a flagship and it remains well behind a Galaxy S21, an iPhone 12 Pro Max or even a Huawei Mate 40 Pro.

That said, it must also be remembered that there has always been a constant in OnePlus. The photo pane is indeed improving updates.I sincerely hope that he will go the same this time, even if I cannot see in the future.

On the software side, the application remains significantly the same as that of the old models, with all the same one or two notable new features.

On photo modes, the shutter thus goes from red to orange. This is a wink made to the Hasselblad brand. The most important comes from the new pro mode.

More complete, it will allow you to take control of settings such as ISO, white balance, shutter speed, exposure compensation or focus. It will also be possible to activate the RAW and display a histogram to verify the exposure.

OnePlus has done things well and this mode will even allow you to record two personalized settings.Note that it is this mode that will allow you to shoot in 12-bit.And it will not allow us to change focal lengths. As a bonus, we will also find another mode baptized in French "change of inclination" and which actually refers to Tilt Shift mode.

Regarding the video, the OnePlus 9 Pro is capable of filming in 8K to 30 frames per second, or in 4K at 30, 60 or 120 images per second.Yes, 120 images per second, there will be something to make beautiful slow motion.

The functions are once again substantial and we will find in particular a stabilizer which has the merit of working well and a night mode to obtain better results when the light comes to decrease.

On the quality side, it is not perfect, but it remains correct.

The OnePlus 9 Pro can indeed recover a lot of details on the filmed scenes. We have a beautiful dive, a fairly correct dynamic and, above all, natural colors.

Stabilization is also a good surprise. She was very effective, even by filming hands -on.

I have always loved the OnePlus, but if there is a terrain on which they have often disappointed me, it is that of the photo.

With the OnePlus 9 Pro, we feel that the brand has made great efforts and that it sought to fill this lack. And I thank them.It is important to listen to your community and they did it.

Unfortunately, the phone disappoints a little. If he can obtain very good results in full light, he unfortunately also shows his limits in low light, which will be a brake for his versatility. This is worth as much for the photo as for the video, and it should be noted that if you want to go up to a high rate, it will be imperative to have a lot of light.

Now, I really enjoyed the pro mode which will ultimately go quite far and which will allow everyone to give free rein to their creative fiber.

    Plateforme & Fonctions

If the technical sheet of a smartphone is important, it ultimately represents only part of the problem.Without good software behind, the best phones will remain completely useless.

The time has therefore come to focus on the platform and the functions of the OnePlus 9 Pro.

Unsurprisingly, the OnePlus 9 Pro is sold in Europe with oxygenos.A platform offered in version 11.2.11 At the time of my test.

If you have seen my only 8T 8T test, then you will not be disoriented.Very few things change and we always find this refined interface so pleasant and especially so accessible. The simplification work operated by the manufacturer makes oxygenos very pleasant in daily use.But above all, it will allow the platform to be used by a wide variety of people.

The fluidity is also impressive.Everything responds to the finger and the eye.The transitions are very worked, the same for icons and menus.

Better yet, thanks to the Turbo Boost 3.0, the OnePlus 9 Pro will be able to keep much more applications open in the background.Which will of course participate in making the user experience more pleasant.

And then there is the absence of Bloatware.Apart from the OnePlus applications, the only tool delivered is Netflix.

More generally, Oxygenos has also been designed for navigation with a hand.Interactive elements are therefore often placed in the lower part of the screen to make them more accessible. This applies to manufacturer's applications, but also for settings.

There remains a question to be tackled: the future of oxygenos.

If you follow Tech a little, you probably know that the OnePlus 9 will be delivered under Coloros in China. And so with the Oppo overlay. Many suddenly wonder about the future of oxygenos.I obviously do not have a crystal ball and I clearly have no info to give you.I don't think OnePlus France in a much longer knowing than us at the moment.

On the other hand, it may be useful to recall that in China, the OnePlus were not delivered to Sus Oxygenos, but under hydrogenos. They therefore already had their own platform, a platform corresponding to Chinese laws and requirements.

At the moment, nothing clearly says that Oxygenos will disappear, even if we have all seen an obvious rapprochement between OnePlus and Oppo.

    In conclusion

The time has come to conclude this test.Overall, the OnePlus 9 Pro is a good surprise and we once again feel the upmarket operated by OnePlus.

The device is elegant, it has a screen to die for and its sociement is the fastest on the market on the Android side side.As a bonus, we have a lot of RAM, a lot of storage space and a platform which is still as pleasant to use.

And then there is the photo. When OnePlus announced his partnership with Hasselblad, I expected a lot.The assessment, unfortunately, remains quite mixed. If the OnePlus 9 Pro is gifted in broad daylight or even in portrait and on selfies, it is clearly not up to a high -end device in the middle of the night.

It’s obviously the same on the video. As soon as the light is missing, the phone will lose immediately in detail. And once again, it hurts a bit to the heart.

Especially that behind, we are on a sale price that remains high. The OnePlus 9 Pro is offered from € 919 for a version equipped with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, and € 999 for the 12 GB RAM and 256 GB of storage version.

We are therefore on a ticket between 900 and 1,000 €.

Personally, I have nothing against the fact that OnePlus sells his more expensive phones. Now, the brand must also understand that the higher the price of its devices, the higher the level of requirement.
