Andrew Garfield thinks playing Spider-Man can be a golden prison, even if it was his dream role

There are not only upsides to playing Spider-Man, it can sometimes bring downsides. While Marvel fans are still wondering if Andrew Garfield will reprise his role as The Amazing Spider-Man in Spider-Man No Way Home, the actor recently opened up about his experience. He talks about the impact he knew it would have on his career.

"I don't know anything about reincarnation, and if there's an opportunity for me to be alive, and I'm offered the opportunity to disguise myself for an extended period of time as my favorite character of all time, there's no way I can say no," Garfield said in an interview with Total Film.

“And, yeah, the one thing I knew was going to be a challenge was the stardom aspect, and I knew a lot of good would come from that as well. I knew this was going to provide a golden prison…. »

Being a theater actor first, being a movie star wasn't necessarily what he wanted, he wasn't looking for fame: "As a creative person, I knew I had to balance that with acting and waiting for the good movies to come along would ensure that I would stay an actor, rather than this idea of a movie star. »

Regarding being a "movie star," Garfield explained that while he "[likes] movie stars," the idea of being one is "not for me, personally ". He stated that his intention in taking on the role of Spider-Man was to "infuse him with as much soul and universality as possible".

“Stories are the things that remind us of who we are as human beings, and we actually have the opportunity to provide deep wisdom, medicine and guidance,” he said. “So for me, it was like, How can I help breathe as much soul and universality into it as possible, knowing that millions of young people are going to be watching? So it's not an exercise in selling t-shirts and mugs and Happy Meals, but it's giving young people the opportunity to feel their own sense of being extraordinary and their own banality, and to see someone like them struggling with those two things that live inside of them. »

Make no mistake, he loves playing Spider-Man, it's just that the aspect of stardom and the star side of blockbuster movies wasn't what initially got him into acting, it's is above all the artistic side.

Garfield continues to deny his participation in Spider-Man No Way Home, despite footage that would prove he is indeed in the film. Obviously, there is a possibility that these images are fake and Garfield insists that they are fakes.

To find out if Andrew Garfield has put on his Spider-Man costume again, we will have to wait until December 15, the release day of Spider-Man No Way Home.
