(Business in Cameroon) - On the occasion of the official accession ceremony of the Cameroonian bank Afriland First Bank, on October 22, to the national switch, the national platform for the aggregation of electronic communications belonging to the Cameroon Postal Services (Campost ), the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications (Minpostel), Minette Libom Li Likeng, invited startups to follow this example.
“We have given until December 2019 for mobile operators to be connected. They are now connected. This is an opportunity for me to launch an appeal to all start-ups, all value-added service providers to come and connect to the platform because, as the four operators are already connected, that means that the market for million mobile phone subscribers is open to anyone who wants to offer a financial service, a payment service and even an electronic communication service,” the member of the government said.
And to add: “Even you journalists. If you have messages to pass on, how are you going to reach the millions of subscribers? You will no longer negotiate specifically with MTN or Orange, Camtel or Nexttel. All you have to do is log in to the platform and offer your service. You will therefore have access to all the millions of mobile phone subscribers in Cameroon”.
Inaugurated on March 31, 2020, Campost's platform aims in particular to guarantee fair interconnection conditions, reduce the costs of mobile financial transactions and promote financial inclusion. In addition, it will allow access to mobile financial services through a unique code, # 237#. Thanks to the USSD # 237# code and regardless of the type of mobile phone the user has, regardless of their home telephone operator and without an internet connection, it is now possible for users to carry out certain operations from their mobile: transfer of funds, payment of bills or school fees, purchase of telephone credits.
