40,000 French people were victims of a massive flight of banking data. The hacker posted information of more than a million payment cards, but also on the identity of their owners.
A million bank card numbers has been disclosed on the Darknet: this is the discovery of Damien Bancal, cybersecurity expert. On a forum, in a discussion between Russian pirates, he spots an unprecedented file of stolen banking data."We have the 16 digits of the bank card, we have the date of validity, we have the names, the first names, the addresses.Suddenly this pirate provides bank data but also information from the owner of the bank card, "explains the expert.
Watch out for shopping on merchant sites
40,000 of these cards would be French. This is only a sample, since the pirate would have millions of other cards, for sale this time. The French Televisions teams found one of the victims. The latter says he has undergone fraudulent transfers on his account. The data comes either from a bank or from a merchant site.During an online payment, users sometimes record their bank details for their future purchases.A very poor practice, according to the association of consumer consumer banks."The security of the databases of merchant sites is not really guaranteed", explains Michel Guillaud, member of the association, who also recommends doing his online shopping on a computer rather than a mobile phone.
