An expiring safety certificate this September 30 could undermine the Internet access to many devices, including Android smartphones, iPhone, consoles or computers.

This September 30, many devices may be cut off from the internet.Among these, there are everyday devices such as Apple iPhone, Android smartphones, connected televisions and even video game consoles."I bet certain things will probably no longer work that day," says IT security researcher Scott Helme in a blog post.

Why do these devices risk the internet cut?

No, the year 2000 bug is not delayed. The reason for this internet cut?A digital security certificate that will expire this September 30.Called Identrust Dst Root CA X3, this certificate is of capital importance for many devices, since it allows to certify another certificate, ISRG ROOT X1, allowing to quantify research on the web.

The problem is that this certificate that expires on September 30 is still used by many devices released before 2017.In other words, if you use an Android iPhone or smartphone launched before that year, there is a chance that you are affected. Here are all the platforms concerned:

Attention, votre smartphone pourrait être coupé d’Internet ce 30 septembre

Fortunately, most manufacturers have planned and offer updates to prevent their old devices from losing their internet access this September 30.If you are using an old iPhone on iOS 9, you would do well to go to your settings and install a security update if it is offered to you.On Android, you will necessarily have to go through the installation of Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread to avoid disappointments.

Regarding computers, it would be theoretically possible to avoid problems using the Mozilla Firefox browser rather than another.Let’s Encrypt specifies that this browser does not use the certificate that is problematic here, and should therefore not suffer from its expiration.
