We are all familiar with external batteries. These very practical accessories allow us to recharge a mobile phone or any other mobile device wherever we are. It is ideal in a situation of mobility, when you do not have a wall outlet within reach. Nevertheless, this type of products have certain limitations. First of all, the power and voltage delivered are limited. Likewise, their capacity is also limited, so that it is not possible to power or recharge many devices with a single charge from the external battery. But above all, the connection is made only with a USB cable. It is therefore impossible to supply a laptop PC, a battery charging station or even a mini fridge for example. That's the whole point of having a true portable power station like the BLUETTI AC50S. In addition to the classic USB sockets, the latter has two DC 12V outputs, a cigarette lighter output and two 220V sockets! It is therefore possible to connect and power many household devices, such as a laptop!
The solution seems ideal in many cases: camping, at a picnic, in a motorhome... or simply at home in the event of a power failure đŸ˜‰ Onward to the BLUETTI AC50S test.
Unpacking the BLUETTI AC50S
Even before opening the box, the whole weighs its weight. The portable power generator shows 6.1 kg on the scale. The product, perfectly packaged, contains the following elements:
The design of the feeding station is simple and effective. The manufacturer goes straight to the point and offers all the inputs and outputs on the same facade. The assembly is robust and the quality materials inspire confidence. The set, rather compact, offers dimensions of 26 x 20 x 20 centimeters.
Technical specifications
As we said above, the main facade offers all the outputs:
Good surprise, the top has a 10W QI wireless charging base. Ideal for placing a smartphone compatible with wireless charging!
The Lithium battery (500Wh, 11.1VDC, 45Ah) which equips the device is rechargeable up to 1000 times without loss. Subsequently, its capacity will drop by around 20% according to the manufacturer. The built-in Battery Management System (BMS) enables intelligent control of the charging/discharging process and provides multiple protections for safe use. The lifespan therefore seems acquired, we will see on the lifespan of the product in use. But it is clear that the strong point lies in the power delivered: the user benefits from a power of 500Wh/300W (with a peak of 450W). Another interesting point, the system is able to operate at temperatures ranging from 0 to 40°C, with a humidity level of 10 to 90%.
Finally, there are three ways of charging: the classic 90W mains connection, on a wall socket. In this case, it takes between six and seven hours for a full recharge. Note that when charging, the fans start operating (a little less than 40 dB). The 12V/24V cigarette lighter socket is also present, which will allow you to recharge directly on your car. Finally, it is possible to use the solar panels (max.120W/10A, Voc: 14-40V) as an option. However, we have not tested this option.
Using the portable power station
Using the POWEROAK AC50S is simple: after pressing the Power button, the color LCD screen lights up. A graphical representation allows the load to be checked at a glance. Input power is shown, as are DC and AC outputs.
Under the Power switch, a long press on the AC button activates the outputs (USB, 12v and cigarette lighter). The AC button is used to activate the 220-240vV outputs. As for wireless charging, just drop a compatible device in the center of the device's surface.
The AC50S makes it easy to connect multiple devices. We were thus able to recharge a tablet, a telephone, a laptop PC and a 17-inch screen, directly plugged into the 220V socket. Everything was working perfectly, without any problems! It does the job, and it does it well đŸ™‚
Be careful though, the 300 W limit does not allow the use of any type of device. So don't expect to operate a household appliance in the event of a power outage. We also tested the operation of a 1200 W hair dryer: unsurprisingly, it did not work. However, we were able to make it work for a few seconds at low speed. The 450 W peak is probably the reason... If you have higher power requirements, you will have to look for other models from the manufacturer.

Before concluding, let's end this overview with a few photos. In addition to the rubber shockproof contours, you can see the LED lighting on the back. The latter offers three modes: strong lighting, weaker and Morse code SOS mode.
