A new feature seems to be being tested on Google Maps: Dock to bottom, which allows you to save any place in a shortcut bar. This can be very useful for example when searching for restaurants.

Google Maps is certainly the most widely used mapping service in the world, but it is still imperfect in terms of user experience. For example, finding a restaurant is certainly easy with regard to the database provided, but not practical if you want to consult several brands in a row and come back to them.

To do this, you have to constantly go back, retype the name of the said restaurant or find it directly on the menu. This process applies to everything and anything from the moment your searches lead you to several results. Except that Google would obviously like to simplify your life.

A great time saver

Search Engine Roundtable, via XDA Developers, has indeed spotted a brand new feature called “Dock to bottom”, currently reserved for a handful of users and the Web version of Google Maps. By selecting a location (airport, bookstore, train station, bar, etc.), a "Dock to bottom" button appears on the left column, on a blue background.

If you click on it, the main interface of Google Maps gives way to a lower horizontal bar in which said place is placed. This is a sort of shortcut bar that gives you access to all classified places via the "Dock your bottom" button. With one click, you can then come back to it.

Soon on our smartphones?

In the idea, this feature can be extremely practical when you have to carry out several searches. You can of course remove or add other elements to refine your list and consult it again as you see fit.

At the time of writing these lines, we do not know if the “Dock to bottom” button will be available on our smartphones, or even in a more general way on all our computers. Because for the moment, this function remains limited to a restricted group of people. Do not hesitate to check its presence on your browser.
