Spam SMS 33700The tool to fight SPAM SMS was created by the AFMM and the French Telecoms Federation to allow consumers to report unwanted SMS, even illegal SMS. The principle is simple:
- As soon as a consumer receives an SMS that he suspects is spam, he can simply report it by forwarding it free of charge to 33700.
- He then receives an acknowledgment of receipt asking him to specify the sender number of the presumed spam.
- From there, his SMS is reported. A message qualification phase then begins, carried out by the operator concerned to find out if it is indeed spam. If this is the case, the operators take the necessary measures so that the stop these practices. These measures can range from formal notice to cutting off the number. Please note that some commercial SMS are not spam. These are, for example, promotions or offers for services to which a consumer may have already subscribed in the past. If they no longer wish to receive any, all they have to do is reply STOP to this message. In June 2010, the 33700 was extended to voice spam with the same reporting principle. If a consumer receives a questionable call or message, prompting him to call back a premium rate number, he can send “voice spam + the phone number” to 33700 to file a report. In 2013, nearly 1.2 million SMS spam messages and 700,000 voice spam messages were reported to 33700.
