In the space of a month, the French can spend more than a full day on their Smartphone. On these World Cell Phone Free Days, ID brings you four apps to cut the cord.

According to Médiamétrie, “mobile users” spent an average of 24 hours and 36 minutes in April 2017 browsing applications and sites, primarily Google and Facebook. What if we heal evil with evil by asking our phone to help us disconnect?

Space: taking stock of its consumption

The Space application observes our habits with the phone and tracks our progress for 60 days. There is a very clear summary of the time spent on each application, the number of times you have unlocked your phone, and you can decide to use a few tools to unhook: screen darkening, notification blocker and timer … Nothing very aggressive, but enough to make a little aware of his consumption of the telephone. Free and available in French.

Forest: feel guilty when you sail too much

What if the future of a tree or even a forest depended on our addiction to mobiles? In the Forest: Stay Focused application, you plant a seed that will become a tree in the next 30 minutes… Provided you don't touch your phone, in which case this future tree will dry out. The idea is to empower ourselves: we feel guilty seeing the tree wither and we therefore force ourselves to concentrate entirely on our work for at least 30 minutes. You can grow your own forest and see its evolution. The application also offers the possibility of seeing the time spent working, resting, having fun… during the day, the week, the month and even the year. Free and available in French.

Off Time: momentarily restricted

The Off Time application also allows you to have an overview of the use of your smartphone (time spent on the device, number of calls made, SMS sent, preferred contact, number of screen unlocks, maximum time away from his phone). But above all, it invites us to take some free time to disconnect...when the time is right. You decide for yourself the maximum time you want to spend on your phone on a daily basis and you can compare it with other users. You can also decide, when you want to be quiet, to block your calls, your texts and access to your applications. The application also allows the sending of automatic personalized responses to let your interlocutors know when you are back online. Note that we then find a complete list of the missed activity of his phone. Once again, nothing aggressive here, the advantage of this application is that it gives the opportunity to set specific objectives and helps us to respect them. Free and available in French.

Moment: being called to order by your phone

Available only in English, on iPhone, and more aggressive, the Moment application records the geographical locations where you have taken out your phone, even for a short time, and also calculates the time spent on each application. After a certain amount of time she uses her phone, she sends alerts and challenges us. You can even use the app as a family and compare everyone's phone usage in real time.

Did you know ?

It was a UK Post Office report from 2008 revealing that 53% of mobile phone users had symptoms of anxiety about low battery, loss or poor network coverage that identified the phenomenon of "nomophobia", or the fear of being separated from your cell phone.
