You may have already been contacted by phone on behalf of Oxfam. This direct contact is essential in our eyes to create a link and inform you about our actions around the world, and the way in which you can support them. Here's how and why we use telemarketing.

Who do we contact by phone?

We only contact people who have shown an interest in our activities. For example by making a donation, signing a petition or asking us for information about the bequest.

Who are our teleconsultants?

We work with two trusted partners, active in this business for more than 10 years, selected for their professionalism and their unique commitment to non-profit associations. The teleconsultants who call on our behalf undergo prior training at Oxfam Belgium, in order to be able to talk about our projects in full knowledge of the facts.

What are the advantages of telephone contact?

Contact by telephone offers the possibility of exchanging and dialoguing, unlike paper or electronic mail. It allows us to learn more about why someone is interested in Oxfam and what they expect from us.

We can also discuss the continuation of this commitment, for example by proposing to start a monthly support or to modify it. Public support represents a third of our income and is essential to the realization of our projects around the world.

A telephone contact also allows us to personally thank the people who support us and to get to know them better.

How can I be sure that the call really comes from Oxfam?

Calls come only from these numbers: 02 526 59 25, 02 880 11 84, 02 880 11 85 and 02 891 43 18.

You will never be contacted by another number or a mobile number. If so, it is a scam call.

If you have any doubts about a call received, do not hesitate to contact our 'Donor care' service on 02 501 67 77, mentioning the number that contacted you. We can reassure you on its legitimate character or not.

What are the rules that our partners must respect?

People who call on behalf of Oxfam Belgium are our ambassadors. In any situation they must be polite and accept refusals without insisting.

Oxfam Belgium is a member of the Association for Ethics in Fundraising (AERF). We subscribe to their code of ethics, their direct dialogue charter and follow the rules of the line of conduct for recruitment by European direct debit.

We require our partner agencies to also know and respect these different texts.

Why are you asking me for my account number?

An account number is required to initiate a direct debit (SDD mandate) from your bank. Oxfam transmits this information as well as your personal data to the bank, under strict conditions, in order to start monthly support.

You will receive after the telephone call a written confirmation containing all the details. You then still have time to modify or terminate your mandate. It is only after this reflection period that we will forward it to your bank.

You can change or end your mandate at any time via OBE.fundraising@oxfam.org or by calling 02 501 67 09.

Is the transmission of my account number secure?

The IBAN number alone does not allow a person or an organization to take money from you. For this direct debit to be effectively set up, you will also need to sign a direct debit mandate (see above).

In any case, if you sign this mandate, you authorize a clearly defined person to take a clearly defined sum from you.

Giving your IBAN does not allow someone to use your bank account. Direct debits are subject to certain rules, so you do not incur any risk in communicating your IBAN number.
