The assembly is a point that is difficult to verify for a simple smartphone user and yet it is an important point. An accident can happen quickly and, if you have forgotten or refused to take out insurance, it can quickly turn tragic in the event of a breakage. The best solution is to call an authorized repairer but the service is generally not given. The more adventurous will then prefer the DIY method: order the spare parts and assemble them themselves.
Needless to say, it's not always easy. It happens to come across bad surprises. Hence the importance of learning about the assembly beforehand. How ? The iFixit specialists have made it their specialty and they recently took an interest in LG's G5 and their report is now online.
One of the easiest flagships to take apart, if not the easiest
So what to expect when opening up LG's latest? iFixit points out first of all that it is not difficult to open it thanks to the Magic Slot. Yes, in addition to allowing the battery to be replaced, it also gives access to two small screws which hold the cover. Two small standard screws moreover (Phillips #00). No special screwdriver needed. In general, LG uses little glue except for coating optional modules. Other screws are used to hold the motherboard and most components are simply slotted into them.
A lot of good news, but bad news. iFixit indicates that the display assembly cannot be separated. Understand that, if the glass is cracked but the LCD panel intact, everything will still have to be changed. So you have been warned. If there's one thing to protect first on the G5, it's its screen. For the rest, replacement should be a breeze, earning it an excellent 8/10 for repairability.
In comparison, the Galaxy S7 scored a tiny 3/10. If you are more of a clumsy type, it is therefore better to turn to LG's flagship or opt for insurance with Samsung's, even if the latter still has the advantage of being waterproof. A significant point.
