A bug with the recharging of certain Apple Watches is coming back to haunt the nights of users who have spent their watch on watchOS 8.3 5 (update: problem corrected with 8.4). Since this review released ten days ago, various forums have been filled with complaints about the watch's inability to charge properly.
Two common points emerge in all these testimonials, these users most often have a Series 7 and a third-party charger. There are some exceptions with older Series but they are rare.
Once placed on their charger, these watches begin to fill their battery but the operation stops very quickly after a few percent or else the charge is abnormally slow. As a result, these Apple Watches are almost empty when you wake up. Restarting the watch or resetting it can help but it is neither guaranteed nor viable on a daily basis.
Given the number and diversity of these testimonials there clearly seems to be a communication problem between these watches and these chargers (those from Belkin are often mentioned, probably because of their popularity, but they are not the only affected).
During November, Apple had to release an update 8.1.1 specific to Series 7 Cellphones, which were already experiencing a charging fault. Apparently not everything has been resolved, a new malfunction has even been created.
