Windows 11 installation on PC not compatible WIM ESD method

Windows 11 released its final version in October 2021. After testing under Windows 10 with PC Health Check or WhyNotWin11 there are some components that are not compatible. The message '' This PC cannot run Windows 11 '' confirms it.TPM , Secure Boot,memory (RAM),processor (CPU),disk partitionIt is possible to circumvent the requirements if the components are not compatible.The goal is to do a so-called clean install.Here a procedure that consists of converting the WIM file to ESD in order to install Windows 11.

Install W11 with the USB key

Installing W11

Prerequisites

A backup of all documents and browser and bookmark passwords,Office license on an external medium.The username and password of the Microsoft account.PowerISOAn 8GB USB key.ISO of W10 and W11 to downloadThe Wi security key -Fi network. Free time.

Windows 10 ISO, Windows 11 ISO and PowerISO

Download the ISOs of W10 and W11 on adguard Put the archives on the Desktop then unzip them for example with 7-Zip or WinRAR

Download PowerISO 32 bit or PowerISO 64 bit depending on the operating system.

Create the bootable USB bootable key

Insert the USB key into the USB port (avoid the bluish USB 3 port).

Launch PowerISO with the right click in Administrator or on OK if launched with the left click.Click on --► Continue the evaluation

Click on --► Tools Select and click the line --► Create a bootable USB key.

Facing the line ''Image file'' click on the small arrow ▼Select the Windows 10 ISO archiveClick on -► Start

Message pops up saying the USB drive is going to be formatted. A brief CMD window will open to copy the ''directory''.

The USB key will be created. Duration 15 minutes. Click on OK when the small dialog box appears -► Write USB drive successfully.

Convert WIM to ESD

In PowerISO click on --► Tools Click on --► WIM ESD Converter...

In the window that opens click on select the right tab --► Convert WIM to ESD Click on the yellow folder.Click on the unzipped folder Windows 11.Click on --► Sources Click on --► install (the file is 4672570Ko)

Click --► Convert

The ' 'install Wim '' file will be converted into '' install ESD '' in the ''Sources'' W11 folder Note that all Windows Editions are present. NLast step a message will say that the conversion of the image file is successful.Close the window.Close PowerISO.Duration --► 1 hour

Replace install WIM in Sources folder

On the Desktop open the unzipped yellow W11 folder. Open the --► Sources folder Right-click on the ' 'install '' file Then --► Copy

On the Desktop, click on ThisPC then open the USB key (or go directly to the USB key). Open the folder -► Sources Right click then --► Paste There is 4.46 GB to copy/paste to replace it.

Click --► Replace file in destination

When finished, close the 2 windows (CePC and W11). The bootable USB key is now ready. Duration--► 3 hours.

Install W11 with the USB key

Bios

Leave the W11 key created in the USB port. Adjust the boot sequence in the bios in order to boot on the USB key. For example on an Asus: Disable fast boot. And activate the CSM F10 to save.

Then press F8 (Startup). And click on the name of the USB key.

Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection

The installation can be done without connection or with according to your choice. Updates will not be installed Unplug the Ethernet cable or cut the Wifi connection on the keyboard.

Installing W11

Once the PC starts or restarts dialog boxes will appear as the installation progresses. Program start: Check or select: Language to install --► French (France) Time and currency format --► French ( France) Keyboard or input method --► French Click on --► Next

License terms

Check the box --► I accept the terms of the license agreement. Click on --► Next

Copying W11 files

Copying files:

Custom install

Select --► Custom: install Windows only (advanced)

Where to install Windows

Where do you want to install Windows? Click on the main partition. Then on --► Next

A message appears with an exclamation mark.

  If the chosen partition contains files from a previous Windows installation, these files and folders are placed in a folder named Windows.old. You can access Windows.old, but you cannot use your previous version of Windows.

Click --► OK

Then a message --► Restart now Click to restart or wait 10 seconds, the PC will restart. A message --► Choose the W11 operating system Do nothing, the installation continues, otherwise click OK .
